Sydney 10th - 12th September 2010

By far the best start to the team’s championship season to date. Round 1 of the ‘Rocket All Stars’ championship @ Sydney Dragway started with highs from the teams first run in qualifying on Friday 10th September.

Prior to this weekend the Guy Watts Motorsport teams personal best was a 7.06 ET, so straight off the trailer with a freshened up engine the altered runs a 7.09 elapsed time. Qualifying continued with the weekend’s first PB of a 7.05 in round 2. Again the luck continued as the team is getting a better understanding of a new tuning software program when the altered goes out for 3rd qualifying session and smashes the previous PB by running Matty’s first 6 second pass with a 6.98 et.

A lot of smiles, cheers and backslapping for the team to celebrate job well done and a great start to race day qualifying in 9th position out of 32 outlaw cars.

First round for Supercharged Outlaws kicked off on Saturday. First eliminations saw the GWM altered meet Norm McCormack on the start line. The team dialled in a 6.97 with fingers crossed for the luck to continue. Matty leaves with a .019 reaction time and takes the win with a 6.974 @ 182 MPH. Fantastic run all round. The team had the remaining Saturday to check the altered over thoroughly.

The altered & team all prepped and ready for Sunday eliminations to get off to an early start which would see Matty meet our pit neighbour – Shaun Liefting’s altered in round 2. Shaun left a red light on the tree handing the win to Matty who ran a 6.99 @ 191MPH.

In round 3 of eliminations we face Les Rodgers in the funny car. Matty dials in with a 6.96 but unfortunately is a little too keen and red lights marginally with a -.002 but still runs it through with a slowing 7.05 @ 190 MPH.

A great start to the championship season kicking off with 60 points on the tally board. For the team the Fuchs Australian Nationals is definitely a highlight to date.

Congratulations going to the team especially Matty’s great drive job and new team member Nathan.

Guy Watts Motorsport would like to Thank ‘Fast Ass Couriers’, ‘Paddy’s Bins’, ‘All Star Batteries’, TDC Refrigeration’, ‘TSS Security’ and the Reed family racing team for their continued advice and help. Also a big shout out to all the family’s support.

The team will meet at Willowbank Raceway for Round 2 of the Supercharged Outlaws Championship season in January 2011.
