Alice Springs NT 1/4 Mile Titles, October 2010. The Northern Territory ¼ Mile Titles saw competitors for Supercharged Outlaws travel from Darwin, South Australia as well as local race teams. The event also attracted other group competitors from Perth, South Australia & Queensland. For the titles ASID bought out Queensland Top Alcohol racers Steven & Debbie Reed for exhibition runs in their funny car and dragster, and also attracted Top Bike and Top Door-slammer teams for Alice Springs first time hosting the NT Titles. Qualifying on Saturday was extremely hot and tested the altered’s performance. After the success in Sydney the race car was in top condition but in the heat slowed to a 7.34 E.T. for the first run. In the second qualifying session the altered slowed again with a 7.52, due to some minor engine troubles. The team replaced a rev limiter chip, coil lead; injector line and supercharger O ring to hopefully overcome a slight misfire in the engine during the previous 2 runs. Sunday were eliminations with Alice Spring heat reaching 38 degrees. Round 1 matched up against Brian Smith from Darwin, Matty dialled in with a 7.30 and ran a 7.49 @ 182 MPH which gave him the first round win. Round 2 eliminations lined Matty up with Graeme Shields who unfortunately failed to fire his Dodge Charger automatically handing the win to the GWM team. For the 3rd round of eliminations Matty had a bye run but still ran a full pass of 7.54 @ 180 MPH. 3 wins on the board would see Matty face off with local racer Craig Pankhurst in the finals. The team changed the dial in to a 7.40 to give him the best chance of a win. Craig breaks out in his funny car but the altered would have been hard to beat with Matty’s reaction time of a .004 and running a 7.48 @ 182 MPH. A win at the NT Titles adds to the highlights so far for the team in 2010/2011 championship season. Thanks going to GWM sponsors Fast Ass Couriers, Paddy’s Bins, TSS Security, TDC Refrigeration, All Star Batteries and REPCO also joining the team. A few months break will see the team travel to Willowbank Raceway in Brisbane for the next round in the ‘Rocket All Stars’ championship season.
