Whyalla Steel City Drag Way
Now this is the oldest drag strip in Australia, Track is made from concrete and isn’t that sticky. So the first thing the crew and I did was reduced the power out of the car and took a heap of timing out. QLF 1 we ran a 5.4 @ 128mph (this is only a 1/8th mile strip) which was good for us because last time we ran here we had no traction and ran a 5.8 @ 98mph with only half throttle. QLF @ we leaned it out this time we wanted more power. Ran a 5.3 @130mph getting better but still wanted more. QLF 3 we brought the timing back up and ran a 5.0 @ 135mph, which put us in 2nd position the guy in front of us ran a 4.96 Rnd 1 we had a lot of dramas in our bracket with guy’s not keeping there car on the track, parachutes falling out etc. there was a sponsor that had put up $1000 for the best package for the first round which meant closest reaction, closest to your dial-in and you had to win. We ran up against a blown Pontiac we ran a reaction time of .160 and time of 5.120 @ 130mph and won, good run but another racer got a reaction time of .140 and ran a 5.510 @ 128mph and he won on a solo pass. Which meant he won by .010 and got the $1000. RND 2 we had a solo run du to other racer having mechanical problem we ran a 5.1@ 135mph good run. RND 3 / FINALS they made this round the final due to other racers pulling out due to more mechanical failures. Was a really good run. We had been running a 5.0 dial-in all day but decided to run a 5.1 dial-in for the finals we ran a 5.110 @138mph and won. We also won best presented car and crew again for the 2nd time in Whayalla. Just wanted to say thank you for all your effort and support. Our next round is in Alice Springs for the ASID birthday meeting and the BIG AL memorial.
